One Year Ago Today

We wake up and realize
That one year ago today,
You fought real hard
But had to go away

You left us here,
Crying and in pain,
Wishing it wasn’t true,
Our tears were like rain

Often our hearts were bright
With your smile so pure,
Now this tragedy had us
Thinking we could not endure

We know you would not want
Us today to cry and morn,
But celebrate your life
As if you were being born

That is hard to think
And even harder to do
When we think long and hard
About a daughter like you

A daughter that brought
With her the rays of the sun,
Always had a laugh and a smile
And always had fun

One that helped others
Deal with their struggles
That had a personality
That reminded us of bubbles

To imagine that one day
You would no longer be
Would be harder to fathom
And even harder to see

So while we try our best
To think of you this way
We will always be sad of what happened
One year ago today.
